Emily Joy Oomen is an poet, journalist, and social media specialist. Born and raised near Dallas, Texas, she now lives in the Pacific Northwest. She has a B.A. in English with a minor in Visual and Media Arts from the University of Washington.
Her work has appeared in Vice, Buzzfeed’s homepage, Entropy Mag, Sundress Publications, the anthology You Flower/You Feast, and many other publications. She currently edits videos and manages the social media for The Poetry Vlog, and she has work forthcoming in BBC.
Her creative writing deals with topics such as love, mental health, and social commentary. Her video poems transcends the bounds of the page and have been featured at the Athens International Video Poetry Festival and on her YouTube channel Poetic Espresso.
She is currently working on her first book which is a visual poetry book called Artificial/Reality which is formatted like a satirical magazine and discusses artificiality and reality in the rising digital age.
And yes, her last name indeed is pronounced like the literary device “omen”.
